Empowering Women to Protect Girls and Prevent Gender-Based Violence (KASA! – AWDF)

Women across fifteen communities in the Tolon District are gaining stronger voices and greater awareness in the fight against gender-based violence through community engagement sessions organized by Sung Foundation under the AWDF KASA Project.

The sessions brought together mothers, caregivers, and community women to openly discuss issues affecting women and girls in their communities, including gender-based violence, teenage pregnancy, early and forced marriage, child abuse, and school dropout among girls.

Through interactive discussions and participatory learning activities, the women reflected on their roles in protecting their daughters and supporting girls to stay in school and reach their full potential. Facilitators also guided conversations on recognizing signs of abuse, responding to harmful practices, and working collectively to build safer communities.

“When women understand their power to protect and support their daughters, entire communities become safer for girls.”

The sessions created a safe space where participants could share experiences, ask questions, and learn from one another. Many women expressed appreciation for the opportunity to openly discuss issues that are often difficult to address publicly.

By strengthening knowledge and encouraging community dialogue, the initiative is helping women become active advocates for the protection of girls and the prevention of gender-based violence.

As the project continues, these women are expected to play a key role in sustaining awareness and supporting community efforts to ensure that girls grow up in safe environments, free from abuse, early marriage, and other harmful practices.
