Sung Foundation is currently implementing an initiative titled “Amplifying Rural Voices: Sustaining Advocacy for the Rights of Women and Girls in Tolon and Kumbungu Districts”. The project, funded by AWDF, spans 10 communities across the Tolon and Kumbungu Districts, seeks to empower rural women and girls, particularly those most marginalized, to influence gender-responsive policies that affect their lives.

So far, the Foundation has mobilized all 10 communities and conducted community engagement sessions and focused group discussions on key issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), child marriage, teenage pregnancy, women’s leadership, and digital safety. These dialogues have surfaced powerful stories and deep-rooted barriers to justice, including fear of spiritual attacks, a key reason many women cited for not reporting violence.
The conversations have also created safe spaces for reflection and sisterhood. As one participant shared, “We have lived with silence for too long. Now, we know our silence is not protection.”

In the coming weeks, district-level durbars on women’s rights will be held to amplify these community voices further and push for action from local duty-bearers.
Through this ongoing work, Sung Foundation continues to stand with rural women and girls, ensuring their voices are not only heard but lead the change.
