In celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, Sung Foundation took a remarkable step to inspire and support the young girls of Wantugu Junior High School in the Tolon District. The event, which featured insightful speeches, mentorship, and donations, underscored the Foundation’s commitment to promoting education, empowerment, and the well-being of girls in the community.
The theme for this year’s commemoration, Girls’ Vision for the Future, was brought to life by Adam Shafawu, the Gender and Governance Officer of Sung Foundation, who delivered a powerful speech to the students. Shafawu emphasized the critical importance of investing in girls and providing them with opportunities to grow, thrive, and become future leaders. She reminded the students that, despite the challenges girls face, they have the potential to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and make a lasting impact in society.
Shafawu’s speech highlighted key issues affecting girls globally, such as limited access to education, early child marriage, and gender-based violence. She called on the students and the wider community to work together in creating an environment where girls can learn without fear, pursue their dreams, and become empowered to lead change.
In line with the Foundation’s mission to support girls’ education and well-being, several essential items were donated to the students. These included exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, sanitary pads, and refreshments. These donations are aimed at addressing some of the basic needs that often hinder girls’ ability to fully participate in school and excel academically.
The Executive Director of Sung Foundation, Hajiah Fati Seidu Tambro also took the opportunity to address the students, reaffirming the organization’s dedication to empowering young girls through education and mentorship. She stressed that investing in girls is not just a matter of fairness, but a critical step toward building stronger, more prosperous communities.
Additionally, two distinguished female role models from the local community spoke at the event, sharing their personal stories of overcoming obstacles and rising to leadership roles. Their inspirational messages resonated deeply with the students, showing them that, with determination and the right support, they too can achieve greatness.
The International Day of the Girl Child serves as a reminder that empowering girls is key to unlocking the potential of entire communities. Sung Foundation’s efforts in Wantugu not only celebrated the achievements of girls but also reinforced the collective responsibility to ensure they have the tools and opportunities needed to succeed.
Through education, mentorship, and tangible support, Sung Foundation continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of young girls in the Tolon District and beyond. By investing in these girls today, we are building the leaders of tomorrow. Let us all be inspired to contribute in whatever ways we can to the empowerment of girls, and to the creation of a future where every girl can achieve her dreams.
