CLIMATE CHANGE: Continuing the Fight Against Climate Change in Northern Ghana

Sung Foundation launched the second phase of its climate change initiative, funded by Gower Street, across several communities in Ghana’s Northern and North-East regions. Building on the first phase’s success where efforts like tree planting, eco-friendly cooking, clean transportation, and solar energy promotion made a positive impact, this phase promises even more progress toward a sustainable future.

Mahami B. Mary, the project’s passionate leader, has been hard at work visiting schools, assessing progress, and supporting local efforts to protect the environment.

Some notable Achievements So Far include;

  • Tree Planting: Selected schools from the first phase continue to show enthusiasm for tree planting, with many trees from the initial efforts thriving. Several schools have requested additional seedlings to expand their efforts. Mary has been providing materials like fencing to protect the young trees, ensuring their long-term survival.
  • Community Engagement: The commitment from the communities has been inspiring. While some areas have faced challenges, Mary and her team remain positive and are providing tailored support to keep the momentum going. From offering tools and advice to troubleshooting issues like the need for fencing, Sung Foundation is dedicated to ensuring success.

While most of our selected schools have embraced the project wholeheartedly, some have required additional encouragement. Nonetheless, Sung Foundation remains committed to ensuring that each community receives the resources and support they need to make sustainable choices.

Mary has also been focusing on environmental education, using creative activities like arts and crafts to engage young students and spark their interest in protecting their surroundings.

As the second phase unfolds, Sung Foundation is set to expand the project into more communities in the North-East region. With continued efforts in tree planting, eco-friendly practices, and education, the fight against climate change in these regions is getting stronger.
