Empowering Women for Leadership: Sung Foundation Commemorates International Women’s Day in Kumbungu

Sung Foundation commemorated International Women’s Day at Kumbungu with the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) women’s group, celebrating the achievements and contributions of women while addressing key issues affecting their empowerment.

The event brought together various stakeholders, including the Executive Director of Sung Foundation, Hajia Fati Seidu Tambro, the Gender and Governance Officer, Shafawu Adam, Hajia Ayisha Freeman, and other dedicated staff members of the foundation. Their presence underscored the organization’s commitment to promoting gender equality and fostering leadership among women in the community.

During the engagement, women were encouraged to actively pursue leadership roles in their communities and beyond. Speakers emphasized the importance of women supporting one another in their aspirations, advocating for a collective effort to break societal barriers that often hinder female leadership. Participants were urged to challenge traditional norms that limit women’s participation in decision-making processes and to serve as role models for the younger generation.

As part of the advocacy efforts, discussions also centered on women’s empowerment and the need to reduce the workload of young girls by redistributing unpaid care work more equitably within households. The foundation highlighted the impact of excessive domestic responsibilities on girls’ education and personal development, stressing the need for shared responsibilities among family members to create a more balanced and supportive environment.

The commemoration served as a platform for women to voice their concerns, share experiences, and strategize on ways to strengthen their role in leadership, economic development, and social transformation. Sung Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift women and create opportunities for them to thrive in all aspects of life.
